Intimate Toxicities; Mustard Sweater
2023
Wool, paper, glue, gauche, BLK 3.0, cardboard, wire, wood, felt.
79" x 52" x 27," Though not tied to one specific place, the pigmentation in these invented topographies is taken from satellite images of climate disasters such as the fires in California, floods in Pakistan, and ice melt. Found sweaters, originally made to provide comfort, become features of the landscape. Unraveled yarns cascade down the form in rivulets connecting knit patterns with papier mâché cells. The houses in these works are exposed as vulnerable and precarious objects stitched together and rendered silent without entrances or exits. Matte black paint denies dimensionality of form, representing burnt foundations and loss of life.
